We trawl Scottish arcades for Sega games,
then film & write about them.

About

What's this site about?

It's the 21st century. The proliferation of affordable high-spec home consoles has stripped arcade games of their technological advantage; the social value of head-to-head competition has been undermined by the convenience of multiplayer home & online gaming. Today arcades must increasingly rely on gimmicky controllers and merchandisers for survival. The humble video arcade game is becoming an endangered species. We aim to hunt down, document and appreciate these machines while we still can, focusing on Sega machines in particular because we like them and because they stand as a once-ubiquitous representation of a particular period of arcade gaming. Also we live in Scotland.

Why 'You Arcade Scotland'?

You Arcade is a fictional arcade in the Sega Dreamcast game Shenmue. The arcade features exclusively Sega brand games, as does our blog, so it seems a nicely appropriate Sega reference to make. The 'Scotland' part is in reference to the fact that our notional You Arcade exists in actual Scotland rather than a fictional Japan.
